Lee artists' work on display

CLEVELAND, Tenn. - The Museum Center at Five Points is displaying the Lee University Senior Showcase through May 3.

The exhibit features the work of art students Sophia Briseno, Leslie Clemmer, Jessica Davis and Jeremy Osborn. They work in several styles and media, from painting and sculpture to photography and digital work, according to a news release.

Exhibit hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday.

Barbershop night planned May 4

The award-winning barbershop group Sounds of Tennessee will perform May 4 at Lee University's Dixon Center along with current World Bronze Medalist quartet A Mighty Wind and the Voices of Lee.

"We are very excited about our spring concert," Sound of Tennessee Director Chad Guyton said in a news release.

I-75 lanes closing in Gordon County

CHATSWORTH, Ga. - Two lanes on the northbound side of Interstate 75 between mile markers 313 and 315 will be closed from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Two southbound lanes between mile markers 317 and 315 will be closed from 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesday.

The closures are needed so Georgia State Patrol troopers can conduct traffic investigations, according to a news release.


Racing blamed in teen's death

MACON, Ga. - Authorities said a youth is dead in middle Georgia after a driver lost control and crashed while racing in Houston County.

The Houston County Sheriff's Office said 17-year-old Colten Joseph Winkler, of Perry, was in the front seat of the Ford Mustang when the crash happened and was killed.

Authorities identify the driver as 44-year-old Danny Ray Wheeler of Perry. He was seriously injured and faces several charges.


Activities set to mark twister

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Tuscaloosa is planning a week of activities for the second anniversary of the April 27 tornado outbreak.

A groundbreaking is being held today for a $7.5 million building that will replace Tuscaloosa's sanitation headquarters. The next day, a museum is opening an oral history exhibit that features residents talking about their experiences.

On Wednesday, the city will dedicate a community garden in the hard-hit Alberta community.
