Hole opens on Oak Ridge High School soccer field

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. - The city school system in Oak Ridge is filling a sinkhole that opened on a soccer field.

Oak Ridge High School soccer coach Jon Day told WBIR-TV he first noticed the hole a couple of weeks ago, when it was about the size of a bowling ball. He moved practice and the field was closed.

The hole continued to grow, reaching a depth of about 12 feet and a diameter of about 7 feet.

Oak Ridge Schools maintenance director Allen Thacker said a geotechnical firm was called in to survey the field. The school system is now excavating the sinkhole and filling it.
