Two area auto racing facilities had big-payday races Saturday night, and Crossville's Randy Weaver won $5,000 in a 50-lap special event at Cleveland Speedway while Knoxville's Jeff McNally earned $3,000 at the Brainerd Optimist Drag Strip.

Weaver repeated a Shamrock victory in March at Cleveland in winning Saturday in Ray Cook's Spring Nationals Super Late Model event. Mike Marlar was second, receiving $2,500, and Billy Ogle Jr., Derek Ellis and Riley Hickman completed the top five in the seventh of 10 races in Cook's series.

Rick Hixson of Soddy-Daisy won the Limited Late Model Steel-heads race, and teammate Lamar Scoggins of Georgetown was the Crate Late Model victor. Glen Seaton III of Cleveland won in A-Hobby and Dallas Brooks and E.J. Bailey of Chattanooga won in B-Hobby and Pony/FWD, respectively.

McNally's win in the 4.70-second class ccame on a 4.70-second run on a 4.70 dial in a 1998 Pontiac Firebird with a 632-cubic-inch Chevy engine with alcohol injection and nitrous oxide assist. Tom Neubert of Corryton was second with a 4.69 second run in his 1957 Chevy Bel Air.

Flintstone's Tracy Cochran won the 5.70 class with a 5.72 run to runner-up Mark Miles' 5.73. Wes Moore of Georgetown won the 6.0-second class in a '72 Nova with Ringgold's Jerry Bryant second, and Rossville's Rick Millard Jr. won the 7.0 class in an '87 Camaro SS with Jason Young second.

David Bigham was the Super Pro winner with an 8.60 run on an 8.58 dial in a '69 Dodge Dart, and Eric Boyd was second in a Chevy dragster.

Doug Frazier won the Foot Brake class in the slowest car in Saturday's competition, a'69 Rambler American, with Marty Goldsmith second, and Bryan Vaughn and Ryan Dennis were the motorcycle and junior dragster winners.

Chattanooga's Cynthia Farrow had the low elapsed time (4.54) and top speed (152 mph) of the meet.
