Lee University baseball team gets 40th win 11th year in row

Left-hander Mike Guinane allowed only two hits in his seven innings as the Lee University baseball team beat visiting Georgia Gwinnett 8-1 on Tuesday at Olympic Field, giving the Flames 40 wins for the 11th season in a row.

Lee (40-10), No. 4 in the NAIA rankings, got a home run, a double and three RBIs from Brady Renner, a three hits including a triple by Josh Silver, a two-run hit from Chris Avey and three and two runs scored for Trevor Burgess and Karsten Strieby.

Tenth-ranked Tennessee Wesleyan, the reigning NAIA champion, improved to 37-15 by beating Hiwassee 9-0 in Athens.

Bryan College defeated Tennessee Temple 7-4 in Dayton after winning 13-4 over the Crusaders on Monday at AT&T Field. Cody Rhinehart was 5-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored and Grant Zawadzki was 3-for-5 with three RBIs and three runs for Bryan (27-23) on Monday, when Blake Johnson also drove in three runs, and Zach Hensley and Zawadzki each was 3-for-4 and matched Joey Underwood's two runs Tuesday.

Bradley Grant was 1-for-2 with two RBIs on Monday for Temple, and Sean Leitstein and Brandon Blome each had two hits and an RBI and Ryan Bruce drove in two runs Tuesday.

Covenant ended its regular season at 25-13 with a 7-3 loss Tuesday at Piedmont. Scott Gilllespie and David Lockwood each had two hits in defeat, Gillespie with a triple and Lockwood with a double.

• Third-seeded Tennessee Wesleyan won 6-4 over Point and Bryan lost 4-1 to second seed Virginia Intermont in the Appalachian Athletic Conference softball tournament Tuesday at Kingsport, Tenn. Wesleyan (23-16) faces Intermont (33-12) at 5 p.m. today.

Christine Marino was 1-for-2 with the RBI for Bryan (21-23), which meets Point in the losers bracket at 1.
