Police find body thought to be police chase jumper

WARRENTON, Ala. - Police say a body recovered in Lake Guntersville is believed to be that of a man last seen jumping from a bridge over the Tennessee River during a January police chase.

Authorities say 20-year-old Deonta Markey Griffin had bailed out of his car during the Jan. 5 chase, then plunged into the water from the Veterans Memorial Bridge.

Marshall County Coroner Marlon Killion said the body was found Tuesday afternoon by members of the Guntersville Rescue Squad.

Killion tells The Gadsden Times that the body was found at the edge of the water, about a half-mile from the bridge, in the Warrenton area.

Killion said the search for Griffin continued for several days after he was seen jumping off the bridge, but eventually those searches were scaled back.
