Sunday, January 1, 1905

Thirty artists from Murphy, N.C., to Signal Mountain will be featured at the Five Points Blooming Arts Festival this weekend at the Museum Center at Five Points, 200 E. Inman St., in Cleveland, Tenn.

"Art is in full bloom at the museum this spring," says Tracy McClain, who runs the Museum Store and membership program. "This is the time our artists bring out their fresh new (works) to show them off."

Museum artists marketing their work at this year's festival include painters, jewelers, wood carvers and turners, metal and glass sculptors, blown and kiln-fused glass artists and photographers. Authors also will be on hand to sign their books.

Participants will host their own booths inside the cultural center starting with a preview party from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 26. The festival continues 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, April 27, and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday, April 28. With the exception of Friday's preview party, which has a $10 admission fee for nonmembers, the festival is free.

A Saturday addition to the festival is an extension of the Chalk the Walk competition, which was held April 13. Winners have been invited to compete in a Chalk-Off from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (rain date 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday) by creating an original work on the museum's courtyard patio. There will be a kids amateur division that is open to the public. Prizes of $100 for the Chalk-Off category and $50 for the children's division will be awarded.

Free art projects also will be available to children during the festival.
