Jazz concert reunites Roberts, Djuliarso

photo Jazz musicians Nial Djuliarso, left, and Kevin Roberts will perform together again Friday in a concert at Barking Legs Theater.

A concert scheduled at 8 p.m. Friday, April 26, at Barking Legs Theater, 1307 Dodds Ave., will reunite two of Chattanooga's finest jazz musicians.

Kevin Roberts was a mainstay on the Chattanooga jazz scene throughout the '90s, playing at venues such as Southside Jazz Junction, Birdland and The Foundry. He has since been traveling the world working on luxury cruise ships.

During that time, Nial Djuliarso came to Chattanooga from his native Indonesia to study at McCallie School. He soon became known for his piano-playing skills and played with the Kevin Roberts Jazz Quartet for several years. He earned scholarships to study at the Berklee College of Music in Boston and The Juilliard School in New York City. He has remained in New York, working as a jazz pianist. He performs regularly at Small's Jazz Club.

Friday's concert will feature Rusty Holloway of Knoxville on upright bass and Mike Salter of Chattanooga on drums.

Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 at the door. For details, call 423-624-5347 or visit www.barkinglegs.org.
