Lookouts-Generals game suspended

Friday, January 1, 1904

The Chattanooga Lookouts and Jackson Generals were tied at 4 heading into the bottom of the eighth inning Friday night at AT&T Field when play was suspended due to heavy rainfall.

The Lookouts (9-12) and Generals (9-12) will resume the game this evening at 6:15, prior to the regularly scheduled 7:15 game.

Third baseman C.J. Retherford put the Lookouts in front with a home run high over the wall in left field to start the bottom of the second inning. It was his second homer in nine hits this season.

Lookouts catcher Griff Erickson slapped Generals pitcher Brett Shankin's next pitch to left-center field for a double, and designated hitter Bobby Coyle put runners on the corners with a single. Center fielder Joc Pederson brought Coyle home for a 2-0 lead with a groundout.

Left fielder Brian Cavazos-Galvez scored from second on a Retherford single to make it 3-0 in the bottom of the third.

Jackson got on the scoreboard in the fourth with a double from Steven Proscia off Lookouts starting pitcher Chris Reed, followed two batters later by a Vinnie Catricala double.

The Lookouts added a run in the fourth as Rojas doubled, took second on an error and scored on a Pederson groundout for a 4-1 lead, but Reed ran into trouble in the seventh and eventually gave up a tying three-run homer to right by Jackson left fielder Leon Landry.

Rojas made several good defensive plays in the game, the last a running catch to his right to end the top of the eighth and bring out the tarp.

Andres Santiago (2-1, 1.17 ERA) is Chattanooga's scheduled starting pitcher for tonight's full game, with Roenis Elias (0-2, 3.28) set to go for the Generals.
