Chattanooga Times Free Press reporter Pam Sohn has won first place in the Tennessee Associated Press Media Editors Association's 2013 journalism awards.

Sohn won the daily deadline reporting category for "Waves of Destruction," an account of havoc wreaked by a wave of tornadoes that struck the tri-state region March 2, 2012.

Sohn was competing against another Times Free Press story, by Chris Carroll and Kate Harrison, about U.S. Rep. Scott DesJarlais supporting his former wife's abortion, and one about the death of a Memphis police officer written by Commercial Appeal reporters Kristina Goetz and Kevin McKenzie.

The awards were announced Saturday night in Nashville.
