Bryan College wins 7-1 at Point

Blake Johnson batted in three runs and Kevin Layne went 3-for-4 with an RBI triple, a double and two runs scored as Bryan College completed its baseball regular season with a 7-1 Appalachian Athletic Conference win Saturday at Point University.

Cody Rhinehart and Chris Jeffries drove in one run apiece while matching Johnson's 2-for-4 showing, and Grant Zawadzki and Josh Harris each was 2-for-5 with a run scored for the Lions (29-24, 10-14). They will be seeded seventh and face No. 2 seed Union College at 5 p.m. Tuesday in the conference tournament at Kingsport, Tenn.

Bryan starting pitcher John Cain allowed four hits and struck out nine batters in seven innings, and Isaac Myers and Joey Vega finished the five-hitter.

Defending NAIA national champion Tennessee Wesleyan is the AAC regular-season champion and improved to 39-15 overall and 20-3 in the league by winning 2-1 and 11-1 Saturday at Virginia Intermont (26-17, 11-12). TWC is ranked No. 9 nationally.
