Smith's 'Visual Emotions' on view in Crossville - Aug. 1-24

Forty-one original works by award-winning artist Katie L. Smith of Cumberland County will be on view through Saturday, Aug. 24, at the Shanks Center for the Arts, 140 N. Main St., in Crossville, Tenn.

Smith suffered a brain stem stroke when she was 15 and is unable to communicate verbally.

Instead, she uses colors and flowing shapes in her pastel and acrylic paintings to express her emotions.

Smith and her service dog, Dylan, will be present at a First Thursday reception for artists whose work is on display this month in the Shanks galleries.

The reception will be held 5-7 p.m. today, Aug. 1.

Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday (all times are Central).

Parking is available behind the building at Taylor and Thurman avenues.
