A Lee University student's body was found in a car parked outside the school's married student housing Monday morning, Cleveland police say.

The man was identified as 21-year-old Johnathon E. Messer, of Cleveland, according to a news release from the Cleveland Police Department.

Messer was a junior psychology major at Lee who hoped to become a marriage and family therapist, according to a Lee University spokeswoman.

He graduated from Bradley Central High School in 2010.

He was found in the parking lot of Carroll Court Apartments at 1950 Cherry Street N.E.

His body has been transported to Knoxville for an autopsy to determine the cause of death, according to the release.
