Franklin County Fair begins — Aug. 17-24

Expect to see some mutton bustin' at the Franklin County Fair next week. The 6-second bareback sheep-riding event is one of three contests in the Kiddie Rodeo, set to start at 6 p.m. CDT Thursday, Aug. 22, at the Winchester, Tenn., fairgrounds.

The four-day fair officially gets underway Tuesday, Aug. 20. However, Fairest of the Fair winners have already been determined; a 5K run is set for 7:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, the same day contest entrants may register their home arts for blue-ribbon consideration; and a horse show will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 18.

• 7:30 p.m. Senior Citizen Fairest of the Fair

Wednesday Aug. 21

• 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Senior Citizen cookout/bingo

• 1-3 p.m. Special Needs Day (free carnival rides)

• 5 p.m. Carnival opens

• 6 p.m. Salute to God & Country program; Boots & Bows Pageant

Thursday, Aug. 22

• 5 p.m. Carnival opens

• 6 p.m. Kiddie Rodeo

• 7:30 p.m. Demolition Derby

Friday, Aug. 23

• 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Kids Day at the Fair (carnival armbands $15; $1 fair admission)

• 1 p.m. Mud volleyball tournament

• 3 p.m. $10 fair admission begins

• 5 p.m. Carnival reopens (armbands $20) and goat show
