Bledsoe County Warriors
Coach: Jason Reel (29-17 in five years here and overall)
Last year: 2-8, including a 60-56 loss to CCS and a 29-28 loss to Marion County. It was a drastic fall-off from the 10-2 showing in 2011. One of the Warriors' two wins, though, was over neighbor Sequatchie County.
'13 dreams: Reel is placing a big load on the offensive line and has emphasized team attitude and focus, starting with those guys. He was working two youngsters at quarterback while another potential candidate continues recovering from a broken arm. The staff is concerned about the lack of game experience and depth at some positions but feels good about returning to the playoffs.
13-for-13 contenders: The Warriors are high on offensive linemen Tristan Dawson (6-foot, 275), Dalton Swonger (6-2, 270) and Blake Sorrow (5-11, 280).
Number of interest: The Warriors have 13 returning starters, including a punter, with six coming back on offense and six on defense.
13 years ago: Reel was a student assistant coach at the University of Tennessee, working for defensive coordinator John Chavis. The Warriors were 2-8 that year, losing two games, including their opener, by a point. They were shut out three times, including 56-0 by rival Sequatchie County in the season finale.
Program superstition: It's more a tradition, but the Warriors wear "7KB" on their helmets to show their respect for Kainen Boring, a Bledsoe player who died during the 2011 season.
1-through-3: Running back/linebacker Lucas Frady
Q. What's it like being a little brother (to former Warrior Gage Frady)?
A. It gives me someone to look up to, and something to live up to, really. He's quiet, but I have tried to watch him and learn."
Q. What does it take to play football at Bledsoe County?
A. It takes heart. We're small and we don't have much. We do what we can do.
Q. What are your hobbies?
A. I like to hunt - deer hunt, squirrel hunt with friends. We fry the squirrels most of the time.
- Ward Gossett
