Coach: Barry Loyal (7-23 here and overall)
Last year: 2-8 but ended with a 60-56 win over Bledsoe County
'13 dreams: Entering their fourth season with varsity football, the Chargers still are trying for a first winning season. The closest they've come was 4-6 in 2010. That said, 18 of this year's likely 22 starters played extensively last season and nine of those were starters. They're staying in the spread offense but changing to a 3-5 defensively under new coordinator Tommey Morrell. There are only five seniors, and Loyal considers each a key to the team's success.
13-for-13 contenders: Austin Mansell will be a slot receiver and linebacker/safety and will definitely be counted on as a playmaker. He will be a three-year starter who also played a lot as a freshman. Clark Marshall is new to the team this year, but Loyal expects the sure-handed 6-foot-5 receiver to have an immediate and major impact.
Number of interest: 13 - In four years of competition the Chargers are still looking that many total wins. They're at 10 and counting heading into this season.
13 years ago: CCS was big in soccer, basketball and baseball. There was no football team until 2009. Loyal was at Trinity Presbyterian School in Montgomery, Ala., going from a wing-T offense to a spread with a team that won a state title three years later.

Q. There were high hopes last year. What happened?
A. There were games we just didn't finish. We definitely could've done better against Lookout Valley, and Grundy County has always slipped through our fingers.
Q. What are the goals for CCS?
A. Ultimately the goal is to finally have that winning season. We have tried to build on the previous season each year, but last year we took a step back. Playoffs are definitely a possibility.
Q. What's the strength of this team?
A. Definitely our offense and how quickly we can score. We have a new defensive coordinator this year, and the defense looks to be clicking.
