2013 - Copper Basin Cougars

Denzel Brown, above, figures to be a key piece to the Cougars offense after rushing for more than 1,000 yards last season as a junior.

Copper Basin Cougars

Coach: Patrick Daley (31-44 in seven seasons here and overall)

Last Year: 8-4, losing 62-26 to Greenback in the second round of the playoffs

‘13 dreams: Finding a successor for quarterback Dylan Boggs is a top priority for the Cougars. Coach Patrick Daley said several candidates are in the mix. The linebacking corps is a solid group and should help fortify the defense. With a total of 29 on the squad, a couple of freshmen are expected to be in the rotation along the line. They have returners at 13 starting spots, so a return trip to the playoffs is not out of the question.

Number of interest: Copper Basin has won 13 state-playoff games in program history.

13 years ago: The Cougars advanced to the second round of the playoffs and averaged 31.4 points per game on the way to an 8-4 record.

1-through-3:

Three questions with senior guard and linebacker Dakota Sosebee

Q. What are the expectations at Copper Basin this year?

A. I think we’ll have a good team. We need a lot of juniors to step up, but I think we’ll be pretty solid.

Q. What do you see as the strength of the team?

A. I think we’re really good with the defensive line and linebacking corps. That’s where most of our leaders are.

Q. What is your favorite thing about football?

A. I like unleashing my anger after what I’ve been through that day and taking it out on the opposing team. The only friends I have on Friday nights are my teammates.
