Last year: 8-3, lost to Sheffield in the first round of the Alabama Class 2A playoffs.

'13 dreams: The Bison return nine defensive starters and six from an offense that averaged 34 points per game. There is also more depth than in recent memory, all of which should mean another playoff run.

13-for-13 contenders: Senior Cody McBryar (5-foot-10, 200) takes over at quarterback after having been a utility player for the last two years, playing a variety of positions. The team won't throw the ball nearly as much as the last three seasons when Tyler Vann threw for more than 2,500 yards each year. Senior running back Dexter Walsh (6-2, 220) now becomes the offensive focus, but senior receivers Ean MIles (5-8, 160) and Eric George (5-10, 170) will need to provide balance as well. Senior Colt Shrader (6-2, 235) is the backbone of the offensive line, and sophomore Michael Farber (5-10, 185) anchors the defensive line.

Number of interest: 3. The players who likely will have to start on both sides of the ball. That's a small number for a 2A program, and having a rotation of nine linemen should help keep everyone fresh for the late stages of games.

1-through-3: Senior Cody McBryar

Q. You played receiver and running back last year, so what's the toughest part of switching to quarterback this year?

A. Knowing where everybody has to be on every play. I have to make sure everybody is lined up right and then know where they're all supposed to go after the snap.

Q. What do you see as your role on the team now as a senior quarterback?

A. That will change from week to week. We want to establish a run game, and I feel good about helping the team running the ball, but if the team needs me to throw, I feel confident I can do that, too."

Q. Do you have any superstitions?

A. I've been wearing the same socks for every game for the last two years. It's a pair of blue and white ones that I thought looked nice, and then after I played good in them I kept wearing them. I do wash them after every game, though."
