Red Bank Lions
Coach: E.K. Slaughter (4-6 in one year here; 25-26 in five years overall)
Last year: 4-6, ending a seven-year postseason string
'13 dreams: The Lions will be more reserved offensively, shifting from a wide-open passing attack to a more conservative option game that will feature some spread sets. They're listed by a couple of other coaches as dark horse title contenders in District 6-AA. "We will be better than people think," said Slaughter, who feels good about the starters but is concerned about the quality of depth if the team suffers an injury or two. There are five starters returning on each side of the ball, but the staff was uncertain in early August about punting and kicking specialists.
13-for-13 contenders: The Lions' hopes will hinge on quarterback Mike Robinson's performance. He has been called dynamic, but he'll have to be on his game if their offense is going to be efficient. Senior defensive end Brandon Wright (6-3, 250) is a college prospect who has qualified academically and already has drawn interest from some mid-major schools. Two junior linemen are key: Courtney Stamper (6-4, 255) and Myles Smith (6-4, 265).
Number of interest: Jeff Price, brother of Signal Mountain coach Bill Price, played at Red Bank in the early 1980s and holds the school record with 13 career 100-yard rushing games. He's also among the school's single-season rushing leaders with 1,315 yards in 1981.
13 years ago: While Slaughter was in his first year as a teacher and coach at Northwest Whitfield, Red Bank was enjoying an unbeaten run to a state football championship behind running back Gerald Riggs Junior.

A. We have a great chance to win the district. Our defense is strong and we have great runners in the backfield.
Q. Who is the team's best player?
A. Michael Robinson. He's so smooth. He takes control of the offense, he takes care of the ball and he takes care of business.
Q. You're 6-foot-3, 250; are you getting any college interest?
A. I want to play college football. Mostly so far, it's been Tennessee Tech and Samford. I made a 23 on the ACT, so I'm qualified."
