LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. — School officials in Gwinnett County say an assistant elementary school principal has died after falling down a flight of stairs and hitting her head.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Monday that 36-year-old Jennifer Niday was visiting friends in Athens over the weekend when she fell down a flight of stairs and hit her head.
Niday was the assistant principal at McKendree Elementary School in Lawrenceville, and had worked there since 2008.
The school notified parents of Niday’s death in a letter and the school’s principal said grief counselors would be on hand to assist students and teachers.
Niday’s mother told the newspaper her funeral is scheduled for Saturday.
