Area students in fourth through 12th grades are invited to audition for the Bryan College Community Children's Choir (grades 4-8) or Youth Choir (grades 9-12) for the coming year. Auditions will take place Thursday, Aug. 29, at 4 p.m. in the choral room of Rudd Auditorium on Bryan's campus in Dayton, Tenn.

Students selected for either choir will practice weekly. Both choirs have a $25 fee per semester, and the Youth Choir has a one-time uniform fee. Rehearsals will be held in Room 109 on the lower level of Rudd Auditorium.

The Children's Choir will rehearse Mondays from 4:15 p.m. to 5 p.m. Members will work on sight-reading skills, blend, balance and memorizing music for concerts. Their repertoire will include classical, spiritual and traditional sacred music.

The Youth Choir will learn music in a variety of styles, developing musicianship in the context of ensemble performance. They will rehearse Wednesdays from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

New directors for Bryan's choirs are Jane Barnett, Children's Choir, and Randy Bright, Youth Choir. Barnett has taught piano at all levels for more than 30 years, has directed many choirs and been involved in choral music either as a singer, director or accompanist. Bright, who will graduate in December with a degree in vocal music education, teaches voice lessons and has performed in several campus productions.
