Rev. James Lawson persuaded students to risk lives for civil rights

The Rev. James Lawson strolled into the loud chatter of Holman United Methodist Church’s fellowship hall, right past the little table for filling out a “Hello, my name is” sticker and being assigned to a group.

Everyone knew exactly who he was, and he’d join whatever group he wanted.
