The Bradley County Sheriff's Office has reported that an investigation continues into a Sunday night shooting that led to one person dying and another person who was injured being sent to an area hospital.

A news release said Christopher Coty Tatum, 28, died at SkyRidge Medical Center where he was taken for treatment while Gaberila Wendy Gasparian, 33, is expected to recover though still undergoing treatment at Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga. Their address was listed as 3248 Springplace Road.

The release said detectives involved in the investigation indicate there was possible alcohol consumption and the reckless handling of a handgun. It says that while pointed at the two, the weapon had discharged with a bullet passing through Gasparian, then Tatum and finally lodging in a couch.

The release said the firearm's discharge appears accidental though the investigation is continuing with the district attorney's office assisting.
