Council Fire Golf Club professional Richard Rebne won the Tennessee Golf Association Senior Professional championship Tuesday by one stroke over Audie Johnson of Lebanon. Rebne shot a two-day score of even-par 144 at his home course, and Johnson and Steve Munson (146) of Chuckey joined him in qualifying for the national Senior Professional National Championship in Aldie, Va., Oct. 10-13. "The course was set up to be very difficult, so there was a little home-cooking by knowing what pins to go at and what to avoid," said Rebne, who shot a final-round 1-under 71. "This will be my fourth national championship representing Council Fire, and for once, I'd like to play up to my potential." Council Fire's Director of Golf, Hunt Gilliland, tied for sixth at 149; Springbrook's Craig Lee tied for eighth at 151 and Council Fire pro Tad Holley placed 10th at 152.

• Former Lookout Mountain resident and Girls Preparatory School golf coach Charlotte Grant of Greensboro, Ga., finished third at 160 (77-83) in the championship A flight of the Georgia State Golf Association Senior Women's Championship contested Monday and Tuesday at St. Simons Island's King and Prince Golf Course. Grant tied for fifth overall. Brenda Pictor of Marietta won for the fifth year in a row and sixth time in seven years with a 146, seven strokes ahead of overall runner-up Betsy Butler from Atlanta. Perry's Mary Riley was second in the A flight at 155.

Basketball

• Former Tennessee Wesleyan College basketball star Bobby Davis is among the 12 inductees this year in the NAIA Hall of Fame. NAIA inductions are for athletes, coaches and meritorious service providers, and Davis went in as a player in the sport where he is regarded as possibly the best in TWC history. The 1968 graduate of the Athens school held the Bulldogs' scoring record until 1985 with 1,985 points, and he set two records for free throws in the program-best 30-5 season of 1966-67: 204 attempted and 156 made. "In my 14 years at TWC, if the question of who is the best TWC basketball player of all time is asked, the name Bobby Davis is always the first to be mentioned," current athletic director Donny Mayfield said in a school release. "Almost five decades since he put on a TWC uniform, his name is still at the top of all-time TWC greats." Davis went on to a sales and marketing career and continues to work part-time at Marvin Concepts and Dealers Warehouse Corp. in Knoxville. "It is a great honor and I am humbled by my selection," he said of the NAIA hall selection. "Tennessee Wesleyan was a great experience for me, a great place to continue my education and to play basketball. I had the privilege of playing for Coach Dwain Farmer and was surrounded by a talented group of teammates."

Tennis

• Chattanooga's Wesley Cash registered Tuesday his second dominating singles win in the USTA National Men's 45 and 50 Grass Court Championships in Philadelphia, this time 6-1, 6-1 over Prescott Lester of Jupiter, Fla., in the 50s round of 32. Cash faces Hans Gallauer of St. Petersburg, Fla., today. Cash and partner Michael Tammen of Portland, Ore. -- the singles top seed -- won in the round of 16 in 50s doubles, where they are seeded fourth, 6-0, 6-1 over Paul Algate of Indiana and Gregory Otis of New Jersey. Cash and Tammen already have a national 55s title together this year.

Soccer

• The Tennessee Temple University women's soccer team lost 2-0 Tuesday evening to Reinhardt at Chattanooga Christian School. Allie Hale scored from an assist by her twin Katie Hale in the 12th minute and Krista Barikos scored unassisted in the 75th minute in the Lady Eagles' season opener. Taylor Asher notched a well-earned shutout as the host Lady Crusaders kept up an attack. Temple's Lyndi Dodd was the National Christian College Athletic Association Division I national women's defensive player of the week for her work in goal in the season-opening 1-0 win at Point University. She made 10 saves in her first college game.

Football

• Tickets to Berry College's first football game ever go on sale this morning at the information desk in the school's Krannert Center. The game against Maryville College is Sept. 7 at 6 p.m. at Barron Stadium in downtown Rome, Ga., and tickets will be sold at Krannert daily except for Sunday until noon on Sept. 6. Ticket windows at Barron will open at 4 p.m. on game day. All are general admission for $5 each, with a four-ticket maximum per purchase. Alumni can buy tickets online at pick them up at the Berry alumni center or at the stadium's will-call window.
