The Dalton Police Department arrested Javier Valdez-Rodriguez, 20, early today and charged him with two counts of battery, a count of sexual battery, indecent exposure and criminal attempted kidnapping.

The charges stemmed from three separate incidents that took place in June and August.

The first incident occurred on June 14 when a woman walking down Walnut Avenue in Dalton had a man in a car that drive up beside her and yell for her to stop. As she passed an East Walnut store, the suspect park his car and then tried to grab her. A news release said she screamed for help, hit the suspect who then fled in his dark-colored Honda.

The second incident took place about 10 p.m. June 17 when a woman coming out of a store had the suspect call out to her and ask for a cigarette. When she answered, the release said, she noticed him exposing himself. When she turned to run, the suspect chased her and tried grabbing her. She also screamed and the suspect returned to his Honda and left the scene.

On Aug. 23, the third incident took place about 10 p.m. in the area of Beechland Street, the release said. The victim said she was walking when the suspect drove up and asked if she needed a ride. He kept insisting after she said no and then got out of the car, attempting to wrestle her into the vehicle. She escaped and ran home to report the occurrence to investigators.

The release said one of the victims in the case had reported a tag number to investigators and Thursday night they found Valdez-Rodriguez using the tag for his car. He was then arrested.

The DPD asked that anyone who may have had a similar attack should call Detective Tommy Ensley at (706) 278-9085, extension 157.
