Calhoun's Da'Rick Rogers shines for Indianapolis Colts

Former Calhoun (Ga.) High School star Da'Rick Rogers made his first six pass receptions as an Indianapolis Colt and scored his first two NFL touchdowns Sunday in the Colts' 42-28 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. He joined three other rookies who played for the Tennessee Volunteers with TD catches Sunday: Justin Hunter with four catches for 114 yards, including a 41-yard score, for the Tennessee Titans; Cordarrelle Patterson with five for 141 and a 71-yard TD for Minnesota; and Mychal Rivera with five for 21 and a 1-yard TD for Oakland. Rogers totaled 107 yards with TDs covering 69 and 2 yards.

Basketball

• Freshman Stedmon Ford had 22 points and five steals as Lee University beat visiting Truett-McConnell 90-74 in men's basketball Monday night in Cleveland. Tyquan Roberts scored 18 points on 8-of-11 shooting for Lee (4-2), whle Corey Billingsley had 14 points, five assists and three blocked shots and Valentino Thomas combined seven rebounds with 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting. Chad Lee added 10 points and eight rebounds for the Flames. For Truett-McConnell (0-12), Andretti Loyd and Thierry Fredric scored 20 and 16 points with three 3-pointers each.

• Repeating from two weeks earlier, Bryan College's Brandon Cole and Tennessee Wesleyan's Armeka Booker were the Appalachian Athletic Conference basketball players of the week for games of Dec. 2-8. Cole averaged 29.3 points and 15.3 rebounds in three games, with 18 and 17 rebounds Friday and Saturday. Booker played only one game but had 19 points, 18 rebounds and three blocked shots in a 58-48 win at Union College.

• Covenant College's Colton McGriff was chosen the USA South Athletic Conference men's basketball player of the week after he averaged 22.7 points and 6.7 rebounds in the Scots' three games last week. The junior from Birmingham scored a career-high 35 points and added 11 rebounds in the lone win, 94-76 at Bethany Lutheran.

• Freshman Erika Woodfin from Dade County scored 20 points and classmate Payton Smith from Sonoraville had nine steals, six assists and seven rebounds in Reinhardt's 63-43 AAC home win Saturday against Montreat. Smith's layup that made it 9-8 put the Lady Eagles ahead to stay, and Woodfin hit three 3-pointers as they took control in the first half.
