North Georgia man, 47, shot to death in home

WOODSTOCK, Ga. - Law officers in a North Georgia town are investigating after a man was gunned down in his home.

Cherokee County sheriff's deputies were dispatched to an address on Misty Hollow Way in Woodstock on Sunday evening. They found 47-year-old Christopher Pierce dead inside the home, where he lived alone. Pierce had been discovered by his father, who called 911.

Sheriff's officials said in a statement that investigators do not believe the crime is a random one.

They think the suspect or suspects may have known Pierce.

Woodstock is about 30 miles northwest of Atlanta.

Woman saved from burning car

KNOXVILLE - Authorities say a Tennessee man rescued a woman just before her vehicle was engulfed in flames.

The Knoxville News Sentinel reports the woman was driving a 2005 Subaru Baja when it hydroplaned Sunday afternoon. The Knox County Sheriff's Office said the vehicle left the road, overturned, struck a tree and burst into flames.

The sheriff's office said a bystander, 31-year-old Dustin Brackins, of Seymour, Tenn., pulled the woman out of her car before it became fully engulfed in flames. She had no passengers.

The woman was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center with nonlife-threatening injuries. She has not been identified.

Judiciary Museum debuts website

NASHVILLE - The Tennessee Judiciary Museum is kicking off its first anniversary celebration with a dedicated website and several new exhibits.

The museum is inside the Supreme Court building in Nashville. It was opened last year as the building celebrated its 75th year.

The current exhibit called "Tales of the Tennessee Judiciary" features eight historic Tennessee cases ranging from an 1846 decision on the rights of slaves to the reapportionment of voting districts in 1955.

The museum is a project of the Tennessee Supreme Court Historical Society. It is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to noon. Admission is free.

Polite robber hits up pharmacy

Police said a man who took money from a Tennessee pharmacy allowed customers to step in front of him at the cash register during the robbery.

The Knoxville News Sentinel reports the robber entered a Walgreens late Sunday night in North Knoxville and demanded money.

Knoxville police Sgt. Jason Keck said the man kept a hand in his jacket pocket and indicated he had a gun.

Keck said when unaware customers approached the register, the man calmly stepped back and let them step in front of him.

Keck said when the customers left, the man stepped closer to the register and again demanded money.

The employee put cash on the counter, the man grabbed it and left.

Police officers searched the area but were unable to find the man.
