Collegedale police arrest man after armed standoff

Collegedale police late tonight fired tear gas into a home on Prospect Church Road and arrested a man who had been in a standoff with officers since this afternoon.

Police had been called to the scene around 2 p.m. in response to a disorderly conduct call.

A deputy was serving a civil order of protection against Reuben Braden when the suspect began threatening the officer, Detective Kat Cooper said.

Braden ran and entered a female neighbor’s home, where he made irate statements about the police, Cooper said. She said Braden threatened to harm officers by returning to his home and retrieving a firearm.

Cooper said the suspect produced a firearm and showed it to police waiting outside.

The suspect’s mother was in the house, but police were able to safely remove her, Cooper said.

Just before 10:30 p.m., police fired tear gas into the home, entered and took Braden into custody, she said.

Cooper said police believe the suspect fired shots, but no one was injured.

Braden is charged with aggravated assault, aggravated battery and evading arrest, she said.
