Q: Dad, do some companies really check out the Facebook pages of people applying for jobs?

A: Most certainly they do, and it can easily cost you a job. You've grown up with social media, cellphone cameras and texting and, while being stupid is not a crime, posting evidence of it is definitely a punishable act that can cost big. Companies are looking for people who are responsible and mature, and a Facebook page can be a reflection of the person, good and bad. This time of year, it's worth noting that posting pictures of twerking at the office Christmas party isn't too smart either.
