Mars Hill University runner Brady Adcock won the cold, wet 2013 Lookout Mountain 50-Mile trail race Saturday in 7 hours, 19 minutes, 31 seconds, and Larisa Dannis from Stratford, N.H., was the first female and fifth overall in 8:14:14. Adcock is a 21-year-old Mars Hill senior from Pfafftown, N.C. Jesse Langer, 31, of Bozeman, Mont., was second in the Salomon Rock/Creek Trail Series race in 7:59:00, and Troy Shellhamer, 33, of Louisville, Ky., was third in 8:09:53. Dannis, 26, finished 3 minutes, 16 seconds behind Nathan Holland, 29. Matthew Jenkins won the accompanying 10-kilomter race in 44:09, 12 seconds ahead of runner-up John Wiygul, and Emily Ansick was the female winner and eighth overall in 51:36.

• Carson-Newman's "Voice of the Eagles" Adam Cavalier won the 2013 Stretch Internet "Call of the Year" for a game-winning 3-point basketball shot by Ish Sanders from Cleveland High School, and Cavalier has another nominated call for 2013-14 involving a Chattanooga-area CNU athlete. Cavalier's description of an under-the-net volleyball save by Rachel Harper from Boyd-Buchanan is one of the fall sports candidates, along with a football touchdown catch called by Michael Wottreng from the Eagle Sports Network. Fans can vote once a day on the web-streaming company's Facebook page, and the top vote-getter as of Jan. 15 will go into the seasonlong competition.
