TRENTON, Ga. - For much of the season so far, the Gordon Lee girls' basketball team has relied heavily on its post duo of Katelyn and Madelyn Lee. Tuesday evening, though, the sisters were neutralized by the Dade County posts and foul trouble, so the Lady Trojans had to turn to their guards.

That group showed they're more than capable of getting the job done, too.

The Lady Trojans had a big third-quarter surge, led by guard Sarah Meadows, and pulled away from the Lady Wolverines for a 46-36 victory at Dade County. Meadows finished with a game-high 14 points plus seven steals and five assists, while Annie Weldon added 10 points as Gordon Lee improved to 4-2.

Meadows had eight of her points in the third quarter, when the Lady Trojans scored 14 after totaling 13 in the first half and trailing by three at the break. Coach Lester Galyon said they finally got the pace to their advantage in going ahead 27-21.

"We really extended in the third period," Galyon said. "I thought Dade County did a good job of keeping the ball out of the post and keeping us off the offensive boards. We've been a post-oriented team, but we struggled there tonight and our guards saved us."

The Lady Wolverines (5-3), who had two players suffering from the flu, were led by 10 points and 11 rebounds from post Marjorie Bonner. They struggled at the foul line Tuesday, hitting only 7 of 18 free throws.

"In that third quarter, we didn't execute," Dade coach Randy Watson said. "[Gordon Lee] made some adjustments and then starting making some shots.

"The only way we're going to get better is by game experience. We got some of that tonight."

Katelyn Lee had three blocks in limited time for Gordon Lee, while Tiffany Holland had four assists.
