GOP will ulitimately accept ACA reforms

There must be amendments to the Affordable Health Care Act, presenting so many problems for those already insured, and for which the president had said all would be protected. No complaints will be heard, however, from the millions who are uninsured and now have many affordable choices. Some had been denied coverage because of pre-existing conditions and family members excluded from coverage. Those without insurance have resorted to free care in every hospital emergency room, driving up the cost of health care, making hospitals increasingly unaffordable for seriously ill patients. Those admitted have borne the cost of self-pay or extremely high insurance payments. Most major nations have made health-care provisions for all their citizens. Those considering the same for Americans presented no alternative to the Affordable Health Care Act, passed by Congress, signed by the president and twice affirmed by the Supreme Court. In due course, Republicans will approve of every provision of health care benefiting our citizens just as they have done with the graduated income tax, Social Security, Medicaid and Medicare, all initially opposed, and often on many of them on the same grounds as the Affordable Health Care Act.

Put God back in our nation

In reference to the letter "Hate, fear are toxic for community," Dec. 12. I would like to state: Christians do not hate and fear homosexuals. And yes, God does love everyone. That is why He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to die for us. Those that choose to accept His Son and follow His ways are called Christians. But God hates sin. The Bible is very explicit about this. Therefore, Christians love the person but hate the sin. We cannot condone what God condemns. We all know the story of Sodom and Gomorrah and what happened when God poured His wrath on them. We, as Christians, do fear the wrath of God. As the gay movement has grown and more people have embraced and accepted it as an alternate life style, the decline of our nation has also escalated. The evidence of this speaks for itself. And no, that is not all that has caused the decline. What are we showing our children? To accept Christ, follow His ways and obey God in all things. We really need to put God back in our nation.

And the list goes on

As I was thinking about the discussion of the City Council's decision to approve same-sex partner health benefits, and the petition response to it, I re-read Leviticus 18:22 [KJV]: "Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination." I decided to find other examples of abominations unto God. I came up with quite a list: eating shrimp, lobster, crab, calamari [Leviticus 11:10]; eating birds of prey (Leviticus 11:11-20), and unclean animals, including snails and tortoises [Leviticus 11: 26-31], and pork [Isiah 16:17], making molten or graven images [Deuteronomy 7:25 and 27:15]; women in men's clothes and men in women's clothes [Deuteronomy 22:5]: proud look, lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked imagination, feet that are swift in running to mischief, false witness that speaks lies, he that soweth discord among his brethren [Proverbs 616-19]; everyone who is proud of heart [Proverbs 16:5]; he who justified the wicked and he that condemns the just [(Proverbs 17:15]; he who has not restored his pledge [Ezekiel 18:12]. And finally, Jesus said. "That which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God" [Luke 16:15].

Tell the whole story

The Wednesday, Dec. 4, commentary by a Michael Smerconish detailed his personal frustrations with the ACA website, and understandably so. As I read the commentary, I thought this seems familiar and yes, this is the same Michael Smerconish that I watched on MSNBC telling about how he was he was able to sign on the (now functioning) ACA website and loves it! And there he is back on another MSNBC show telling basically the same story. Catch Up!
