Chattanooga police officer on leave after evidence goes missing

Thursday, December 19, 2013

Chattanooga Police Department Sgt. Kevin Kincer has been placed on administrative leave without pay after crime evidence, including drugs, was reported missing Wednesday.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the case of missing evidence and alleged employee misconduct had been turned over to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

"Employees who work in the property section of the police department, which includes the evidence room, discovered evidence bags that had been tampered with," TBI spokeswoman Kristin Helm said in a news release.

The missing items included pills, Helm said. The locks in the property section of the police department since have been changed.

Chattanooga police Chief Bobby Dodd said ongoing criminal and internal affairs investigations have been launched.

When completed, TBI will turn its investigative case file over to the district attorney general for review.

The investigation is ongoing, and no one has been charged.
