State arrests four for bringing contraband into prisons

NASHVILLE — A state prison crackdown on contraband continues with Department of Correction officials announcing four new arrests at facilities, including the Morgan County Correctional Complex.

"The introduction of contraband into state prisons is a serious offense that threatens the safety and security of staff and inmates and will not be tolerated," Correction Commissioner Derrick D. Schofield said in a news release.

He said officials "will vigorously pursue prosecution against any person who attempts to threaten security."

Four visitors were arrested at Morgan County Correctional, Northeast Correctional Complex, Turney Center Industrial Complex and West Tennessee State Penitentiary, according to the department.

At Morgan County, officials said, visitor Juliana Fraley was charged with attempting to bring marijuana into the prison.

Candice Pierson, a visitor to the West Tennessee State Penitentiary, was charged with bringing a cellphone, marijuana, flash drives with pornography and posession of hydrocodone, a narcotic, without a prescription.

Northeast Correctional visitor Tiffany Hamilton faces charges for bringing Suboxone, a narcotic, while Deanna Peppers, a visitor to Turney Center was charged with bringing marijuana, according to the department.
