Mexican restaurant opens in Ringgold

Ana Maria's Mexican Cuisine has opened in the downtown historic business district in Ringgold at 7859 Nashville Street. The blend of Mexican and Mediterranean dishes will replace Don Lo Lo's, which had been a fixture in downtown for years.

The restaurant will be open Sunday through Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and from Thursday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Steelpan closes after citation

Steelpan, a Carribean restaurant on Houston Street in Chattanooga, closed Friday after being cited for selling beer without a permit. The restaurant did not have a beer permit for several months after a change in ownership and should have stopped selling beer while applying for a new permit but did not.

But owner John Shoemaker said the restaurant didn't close solely because of the permit issue.

"It was more than that, it was slow business too," he said. "It's a tough time for restaurants. It's a competitive market and it was hard to keep a restaurant in that location."

VW to advertise on Super Bowl

Volkswagen of America Inc. will advertise during the Super Bowl for the fifth consecutive year, though it didn't give away the ad's focus.

"With an unrivaled history of compelling storytelling and iconic advertising, Volkswagen gladly accepts the challenge of keeping fans smiling during the big game's commercial break," said Vinay Shahani, vice president of marketing at Volkswagen of America. "We look forward to engaging more fans with another chapter of the VW brand story."

Last year, VW's ad raised a stir with a white Minnesota man speaking as a Jamaican in "The Sunny Side." In 2011, VW's "The Force" featuring a mini-Darth Vader and the Chattanooga-made Passat was among the top commercials during the Super Bowl.
