UTC wrestling sixth at Reno tournament

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga wrestling team wrapped up one of the program's most successful weekends on Sunday with two championships and a third place showing at the Reno Tournament of Champions in Reno, Nev.

The Mocs opened the weekend on Friday with an upset victory over No. 15 Stanford in a dual meet at Palo Alto, Calif., and returns home with momentum as they prepary to host the Southern Scuffle Jan. 1-2. The field of the Southern Scuffle will feature defending NCAA champion Penn State and 12 of the top 25 finishers at the 2013 NCAA championships.

According to information on the UTC wrestling Twitter page, UTC juniors Nick Soto (133) and Corey Mock (165) each won major decision in the finals of the Reno event, while senior Alex Hudson rebounded from a loss to finish third at 157 pounds.

Mock, currently ranked No. 4 at his weight, remains unbeated on the season.

For Soto, his win capped an stellar weekend after Friday's 15-8 win over Stanford's Ryan Mango, currently the No. 133-pounder in the nation, as the Mocs topped the Cardinal 25-13.

As a team, UTC finished sixth at the Reno Tournament of Champions, an impressive performance considering the Mocs only fielded six wrestlers in the event while four others were unable to compete because of illness or injuries.
