A 28-year-old female inmate recently died at Silverdale Correctional Facility, according to sources.

The facility, which has not issued a statement on Raequayah L. Shropshire's death, did not respond to questions Friday.

An investigative report on Shropshire's death by the Hamilton County Medical Examiner's Office is pending while investigators await the results of tissue samples.

Shropshire died sometime in January, according to sources. She was taken from Silverdale to Erlanger hospital, where she was pronounced dead, sources said.

Shropshire was serving 90 days of a suspended 11-month, 29-day sentence, according to court records. She had been convicted of possessing marijuana and drug paraphernalia, according to court records.

Chattanooga police serving a warrant in December at a home found 39 grams of marijuana and arrested Shropshire and Stephen Lester, 24. According to a police report, Lester reportedly tried to flush cocaine down the toilet as police entered the room. Lester was charged with murder and robbery in the shooting death of Edward Glenn last month.
