Thursday, February 7, 2013

The Chattanooga Fire and Police departments are investigating a fire that left one dead this morning, according to a news release.

Four fire companies responded to a call around 5:50 a.m. to a duplex at 1802 Wilcox Blvd. One entire side of the building was engulfed in fire and flames were shooting out the windows, according to Capt. David Brooks. The couple who lived in the other side of the duplex could not confirm if their neighbor was still inside.

Firefighters attacked the fire through the large front window, said Brooks. Once they had the fire partially under control, firefighters entered the building and searched for victims.

Firefighters found the body of an adult male on the kitchen floor.

No details on the identity of the victim are currently available.

American Red Cross volunteers and Hamilton County Emergency Services provided assistance to the victims from the other side of the duplex.

Both the cause of death and the cause of the fire are under investigation.
