ATHENS, Ga. - Brice Ramsey wanted to be a Georgia quarterback for a long time.

Now he knows it may be a long time before he takes a meaningful snap.

Ramsey is one of 13 early enrollees for the Bulldogs, and he is virtually assured of redshirting later this year with Aaron Murray, Hutson Mason, Christian LeMay and Faton Bauta at his position. The earliest he may get on the field is the 2014 opener against Clemson at Sanford Stadium, some 20 months away.

"It will obviously be different, because I played every year in high school, but I would rather mature and learn everything I can," Ramsey said Wednesday. "That's just part of it. Aaron came back for his senior year, and he's a really good quarterback. He'll probably break every SEC record known to man.

"I don't mind it at all, because I think I will be learning from the best man I can."

Rated the No. 7 quarterback nationally by Scout.com and the No. 3 quarterback by 247sports.com, the 6-foot-3, 196-pounder from Kingsland received his first scholarship offer from the in-state Bulldogs. He started going to Georgia football camps as a seventh-grader, so he has known coach Mark Richt and offensive coordinator Mike Bobo longer than most of the current Bulldogs.

Conversely, Bobo has quite the detailed early assessment of the 17-year-old Ramsey as well.

"His demeanor reminds me of David Greene, because he's really laid back," Bobo said. "He doesn't get too up or down and has a calm personality, and as far as quarterbacks we've had physically, he doesn't have the arm strength [Matthew] Stafford had, but he's got a quick release like Stafford. I really like his throwing motion.

"He's a very athletic kid with good feet because of his background playing soccer growing up. He may be more athletic than anybody I've had except for D.J. Shockley."

Ramsey threw for 1,396 yards and 19 touchdowns last season for Camden County High, and he was intercepted just three times. He operated out of the wing-T formation, which explains his low passing totals, so a lengthy wait before seeing the field may be welcome.

"It's out of the ordinary for me coming out of the wing-T, but I can adapt to situations," Ramsey said. "I've been to a lot of camps, and I've just got to learn this system and the playbook and everything else."
