The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga softball team picked up its first win of 2013 with a 6-4 come-from-behind victory over Long Island University on the second day of the National Training Center Invitational in Clermont, Fla.

UTC lost its second game Saturday, 7-5 to Virginia Tech.

LIU's Blackbirds jumped to a 4-0 lead after two innings, roughing up UTC starting pitcher Jenny Garcia and reliever Kaisey Carson. But sophomore pitcher Taylor Deason settled things down for the Lady Mocs from then on, allowing a single hit and three walks while holding LIU scoreless over the final 5 2/3 innings.

Garcia started the comeback with a two-run single in the third inning, and freshman designated player Anyssa Robles singled in senior second baseman Sara Poteat in the fourth.

In the fifth inning, UTC (1-3) scored three runs to take the lead for good on RBI singles by Alyssa Taylor and Stephanie Rieck, and Poteat finished added some insurance by scoring on a passed ball.

Poteat finished the game 2-for-4 with a double and two runs, and Garcia had two RBIs.

Against Virginia Tech, UTC again fell behind early and rallied to tie. But a four-run fourth inning for the Hokies put the game out of reach. Deason took the loss in relief.

Lady Mocs third baseman Sarah Beth Roberts went 3-for-4 and scored twice, and Alyssa Taylor had two RBIs.
