Neighborhood code inspections scheduled in Chattanooga

Tuesday, February 12, 2013

Systematic neighborhood inspections are being conducted by the Code Enforcement division, the Department of Neighborhood Services and Community Development announced today.

Systematics are inspections carried out on a routine basis by teams of code enforcement inspectors checking every property in designated neighborhoods to prevent the accumulation of violations and to maintain healthy and safe conditions for residents. The inspections are randomly performed in neighborhoods throughout the city and in each council district, according to a news release.

Homeowners will receive a notice advising them of specific violations and be given an opportunity to bring the property into compliance within a specified time period, the news release said. If the property owner fails to achieve compliance within this period, they may be cited to court.

On February 15, the following neighborhoods will be inspected: Hixson/Valleybrook, Avondale, Oak Grove and East Lake.

Teams of code enforcement inspectors will be going block by block in these neighborhoods inspecting each parcel for city code violations including litter, overgrowth, abandoned vehicles and housing code violations.
