He did say a tax increase is certainly on the table. On the table is OK if left there. Select council members carefully. Those with some economic savvy and not thinking all good things come from government are the best choice. No lawyers please.

Even the Times endorsement of Burke, last Sunday, felt to me as if the Times had its fingers crossed: Burke's a Democrat mouthing all the right platitudes, but his lack of specificity bothers us; as a minority legislator he hasn't had to do anything; we hope he's up to the job of mayor. (I say, if he doesn't run on specifics he has no mandate to do anything special, such as tax hike, sewer fee hike, two-way, or annexation.)

Satterfield for mayor, as endorsed by the Free Press; he may not have two years' salary to spend putting up yard signs, but he does have specific plans for the city and experience that suggests he can implement them.

There is a reason that Satterfield has not been able to attract campaign money. I don't know what that reason is, but I do know that money seeks talent.

As I said before, I don't know what kind of mayor Andy Berke will make, but he has the bio of a winner. Never to my knowledge has Chattanooga had a Mayor with the level of academic success as Andy Berke. That doesn't guarantee anything, but it sure does say something about his work ethic and his intellectual capacity.

Because we know he is ambitious, we can also assume that he will want to distinguish himself as Chattanooga's Mayor. We don't often get a shot at someone so talented, why wouldn't we take the low risk chance of electing him?

The other two candidates seem to be also-rans with no real strengths. Chattanooga has had too many also-rans in the past.

Another liberal, left wing democrat with a short resume....What could go wrong?

The city council, like congress, has to approve spending. The current council has enough rubber stamps to allow Littlefield to do as he pleased in most cases. The key to the city improving and being good stewards of the public's money is a capable council. Who will address the compensation distortions with office and administrative over paid and inefficient while fire and police are understaffed and under paid? Who will have an independent cost and benefit analysis of city owned businesses and real estate? Who can and will withstand the special interest pressure? Who will address the future unfunded liabilities issue? It is time to say good bye to all current members.

As Andrew pointed out the Times endorsed him even though they admit they have questions about his agenda...in the same way another famous politican who said "we have to pass it to find out what's in it." Berke is in the pocket of Chattanooga power brokers. Satterfield is committed to combatting waste and corruption and he scares the fat cats in city government.

With the other two running for mayor, most chattanoogans realize they have very little options other than to vote for Berke. Those other two many find disturbing. They've done nothing but attack their opponents, but said very little themselves of what they will do if elected. How often has Berke said anything negative about them? That's revealing to the true character, integrity and values of an individual.

I do not live in Chattanooga now but lived there for twenty years.

I would like a better description of the vision for the city. One persons dream or vision can be another person's worst nightmare. Why was it necessary to increase the cost to live in the city 19% if all the great growth and progress Littlefield and the council brags about were real. Increasing the population is not a good thing unless it is with people with good jobs that own homes, pay taxes and spend money in the city. Have you driven aound and seen all the sculptures including the $15,000 Blue Rhino? Notice all the empty buildings and houses for sale when doing so?

Yes, I saw the endorsement from Drew. The TFP missed appointment(s) with Satterfield and appears to be intentionally minimizing his coverage. It reminds me of how the MSM minimized coverage of Ron Paul during the primaries. I met Guy Satterfield a couple of times and still have one of his little blue flyers. There is a process called gentrification in which, over time, "new people" move into decrepit neighborhoods and revitalize them as the older residents die, or have to move away because they can no longer afford to pay for the place where they live.

The loss of US workers' jobs have been caused from the effects of the global economy and the fraud occurring in the financial systems, with a trade deficit of more than $48 Billion dollars PER MONTH. Now the Republicans are against helping the private sectors in re-creating the needed manufacturing/production jobs here while wanting to cut out the spending of our government which is preventing another great depression.

Do the tax payers in the States, Counties and the Cities really know what the "bottom line cost" that they have to pay in preparing the locations, roads, railroads, electric, water, and sewage for the implant factories? Yet, what would our unemployment rate be in this area if all the new manufacturing plants had located else where?

The money pouring in to our local economy as a result of VW's relocation and expansion are exactly what should occur as a result of taxpayer investment.
