Chattanooga area prep basketball standouts for Feb. 19

Elizabeth Masengil, McMinn Central: She scored 18 points and took home the tournament MVP as McMinn Central won the District 5-AA championship over Sequoyah, 58-48.

• Molly and Taylor Palmer, Calhoun: The sisters combined for 34 points as Calhoun breezed by Westminster, 65-31, in a Georgia Class AA first-round state playoff.

• Logan McDaniel, Whitwell: He scored 22 points in a 64-51 Division 6-A consolation defeat of Sale Creek.

• Courtney Crawford and Aubrey Clemmons, Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe: They led LFO in scoring with seven points apiece in a 59-28 Georgia playoff loss to North Oconee.

• Carrie Cheeks, Sonoraville: She scored 15 as the Phoenix topped Hart County 61-41 in their Georgia Class AAA first-round matchup.

• Jessica Caudle and Juliette Harp, East Hamilton: Each had 13 points as the Lady Hurricanes squeezed past Howard 57-51 for the District 6-AA tournament championship.

• Tim Webb, McMinn Central: He scored 18 and was the tournament MVP as the Chargers blew by Meigs County in the 5-AA final, 92-62.

• John Vannatta, Marion County: His 20 points helped the Warriors pull out a 63-62 overtime victory over Van Buren County in the 6-A boys' final. He also earned the tournament MVP award.

• Brandon Walters, Howard: He pumped in 25 points with three dunks as the Hustlin' Tigers downed Brainerd in the 6-AA boys' championship game, 75-64.

• Jamal Worthington, Bledsoe County: He notched 20 points as the Warriors topped Signal Mountain in the 7-AA championship game at Dunlap, 73-64.

• Clark Marshall, Chattanooga Christian: He paced the Chargers with 18 points in a 53-46 7-AA consolation win over Grundy County.

• Daaron Maston, Ooltewah: He hit five 3-pointers in scoring a game-high 23 points as the Owls claimed third place in the District 5-AAA tournament with a 75-69 win over Cleveland.
