Two professors win Pearson Product Award

Karen Wyrick, head of the Math Department at Cleveland State Community College, and John Squires, head of the Math Department at Chattanooga State Community College, have co-authored an eCourse series that recently won the Pearson Higher Education Product of the Year.

The Squires-Wyrick MyMathLab Series is based on lessons learned at the two colleges on ways to improve student learning and success in mathematics.

"We started the developmental math redesign in spring 2008 and, as our program gained national recognition, we talked with Pearson about developing a new approach for how students learn math," said Wyrick.

Squires said that "in no sense is this a traditional textbook. The material is organized into bite-size topics that students can learn in a fairly short period of time. Instead of being built around chapters, the material is put together in terms of weekly assignments, which we call Mini-Modules."

In addition to being available in college bookstores, MyMathLab Series is also marketed through retail companies such as Wal-Mart and Amazon.
