Farad Cobb is expected to remain as a student at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and earn the required credits to transfer to another Division I program next season.

Coach John Shulman said he dismissed the freshman point guard from the program on Thursday for a season-long series of poor judgments.

Cobb was arrested on the morning of Jan. 21 for disorderly conduct and drinking under age. One charge was dismissed and the other will be expunged after a year, pending three days of public work.

"We were there for him; we did everything we could. He just comes from a bit of a different world," Shulman said. "I'm disappointed that we weren't able to reach him more. I don't think anybody [in the past] told him no or said, 'You have to do this.'"

Cobb can transfer to another Division I school and sit out a year before playing, or he can go to a junior college and be re-recruited by Division I teams.

"I don't think he'll need my help to get to another school, because he has a big name and came from a big AAU program," Shulman said. "We're going to make sure he does what he needs to academically."

Reserve point guard duties to spell starter Ronrico While, converted from a wing, fall to walk-on Alex Bran, who is averaging 3.6 points per game. Cobb averaged 5.7 points and 1.7 rebounds per game. He set freshman records with 21 points on seven 3-pointers at Kansas in UTC's first Division I game of the season.

"We don't think of Alex as a walk-on because he's talented," White said. "He can shoot and he can penetrate and pitch. "
