North Carolina freshman Tory Kemp from Chattanooga and Girls Preparatory School finished third in the pentathlon Thursday in the Atlantic Coast Conference indoor track and field meet at Blacksburg, Va. That made her all-conference in her first college track season, and her total of 3,730 points was the fourth best in school history. She had a personal best of 8.73 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles to go with a 5-3 3/4 high jump, 33-2 shot put, 18-1 3/4 long jump and 2:24.94 800 run.

• The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga track team competes today and Sunday in the Southern Conference indoor meet at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Golf

• With sophomore Liam Johnston shooting a 3-under-par 69, the UTC men's golf team opened its 2013 schedule by tying for fourth place Friday in the first round of the 15-team Bayou City Collegiate tournament at Humble, Texas. Third-ranked Texas leads at 285, one shot ahead of Baylor, with UNC Charlotte at 289 and the Mocs, UT-Arlington and East Carolina at 290. Also for UTC, Steven Fox shot 72, Davis Bunn had a 73, Benni Weilguni a 76 and Chris Robb a 77.

Basketball

• Covenant College junior forward Jessie Blankenship was named to the All-Great South Athletic Conference women's basketball team for 2012-13, and teammates Haley Soles and Alexis Storteboom made the all-freshmen team. Blankenship leads the Lady Scots with 14.1 points and seven rebounds a game, and she's had five double-doubles this season while surpassing 1,000 points and 500 rebounds for her career. She received the third most votes for GSAC player of the year. Soles has averaged 10.4 points and Storteboom averages 7.6 and has four double-doubles.

• Carson-Newman junior Ish Sanders from Cleveland scored 26 points with 6-of-8 3-point shooting in the Eagles' 69-64 loss Wednesday at Lincoln Memorial.

Baseball

• Derrick Pitts homered twice in three at-bats and drove in six runs and Josh Silver was 4-for-5 with three RBIs as Lee University beat visiting Auburn-Montgomery 18-6 in the first game of their weekend Southern States Athletic Conference baseball series Friday. Mark Silva was 2-for-3 with a triple and two runs scored, Corey Davis was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs and Brady Renner and Trevor Burgess scored three and two runs for Lee's Flames (13-2, 4-0), who were third in the NAIA preseason poll. Bryan Young and Shane Turner each had two RBIs for No. 18 AUM (9-6, 2-2). Winning pitcher Myles Smith (4-0) gave up four hits and two runs in his five innings.

• Joey Latham was 4-for-5 with four RBIs and Tyler Latham and Cody Rhinehart each was 3-for-4 with three RBIs as Bryan College beat Taylor University 18-8 in NAIA baseball Friday in Dayton. Andrew Smith was 2-for-3 with three RBIs, Lucas Jolley was 3-for-4 with an RBI and Jess Cartner was 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs for the Lions.

• Tennessee Temple's scheduled baseball game Friday at Covenant College was postponed because of excessive fog on Lookout Mountain.

• The Chattanooga Lookouts baseball club is holding a job fair from 9 a.m. to noon today at AT&T Field. The club will be hiring game-day ticket sellers, ticket takers, ticket ushers, bat boys, mascots, promotions staffers, gift shop and concessions employees, suite cooks, grill cooks and suite, club and picnic servers. Candidates must be at least 16 years old and bring two forms of identification; applications will be available or can be downloaded at www.lookouts.com. Prospective employees will be subject to background checks.

Softball

• Lee University is hosting a "Play for Kennedy" softball doubleheader today against Asbury, beginning at 1 p.m. The event honors a 16-year-old Marion County girl, Kennedy Griffith, who died Dec. 18 of cancer. "We were fortunate to get to meet her and make her an honorary member of our team," Lee coach Emily Russell said. "We are very excited to have the Griffith family join us to celebrate her life and help them build her legacy."

• Freshman Sarah Hundley pitched a perfect game as Bryan College beat visiting Asbury 13-0 in five innings in the first game of their softball doubleheader Friday in Dayton, but Asbury won the rematch 7-4 in eight innings. Rachel Kirby was 5-for-7 in the two games for Bryan (5-5), and Christine Marino was 3-for-3 with two runs in the first game and then had two RBIs in game two.

• Tennessee Temple's softball games scheduled Friday and today at Ooltewah High School were postponed because of wet field conditions.

Rugby

• The Chattanooga Parks and Recreation Department and the Chattanooga Rugby Football Club are hosting Montague Rugby Day today on the new field at the park on 23rd Street. Admission is free and includes a high school match at 10 a.m., a free youth clinic at 11, a Nooga Black game at noon, a Nooga Red game at 2 p.m. and a UTC women's club game at 4.
