The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga softball team almost let a certain victory get away before stretching its winning streak to six games Friday in its Frost Classic at Warner Park.

The Lady Mocs won 10-6 over Miami of Ohio on Kasey Tydingco's grand slam in the bottom of the ninth inning at Jim Frost Stadium.

But then the streak ended with a thud as Boston College beat the Lady Mocs 6-1 despite a 3-for-4 game for UTC leadoff batter Sara Poteat.

After the start of the day's games were backed up an hour because of Friday night's rain, UTC was cruising along with a 4-0 lead behind freshman pitcher Rachel Albritton, but Miami scored two runs in the sixth inning on its second hit of the game -- a double by Shanyn McIntyre -- and rallied for three in the seventh even after UTC made it 5-3 in the bottom of the sixth.

Third baseman Sarah Beth Roberts had RBI doubles in the first and third innings for UTC but made a fielding error on a slow grounder that could've ended the game with a win for Albritton and a save for Kaisey Carson. Shortstop Alyssa Taylor added an error on the same play, and then sophomore pitcher Taylor Deason came in and gave up a tying single to center by leadoff batter Kayla Ledbetter.

Jenna Modic led off the seventh-inning rally for the Redhawks, and Hailey Reed doubled to right center for the fourth hit off Albritton.

Deason stayed in the game for the eventual win, and Poteat, Sam Taylor, Roberts and Ninjja Suetsugu each had two hits for the Lady Mocs. Amanda Ross had the RBI against Boston College.

In the ninth, Poteat began the bottom of the inning on second base per international tiebreaker rules, and Taylor singled ahead of a walk for Suetsugu. Roberts hit a flyout to center, too shallow to score Poteat, but Tydingco made her first hit of the day count big time with the four-run blast to left field.

The Frost Classic ends today with UTC facing Missouri State in the stadium and Tennessee Tech playng Ohio University on Field 1 at 12:15 p.m. Four games are set for 10 a.m., including Lipscomb against Miami (Ohio) in Frost Stadium.

The other 10 a.m. games are Niagara against Northern Kentucky on Field 1, Boston College against Toledo on Field 2 and North Carolina Central against Eastern Kentucky on Field 3.
