CSO Youth Orchestra concert honors memory of violinist

Sunday, January 1, 1905

The CSO Youth Orchestras will present its winter concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 4, at Brainerd Baptist Church, 300 Brookfield Ave. The performance will feature the Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Gary Wilkes. The musicians will honor the memory of Chattanooga Symphony & Opera violinist Stephen Panchaud, who died this past fall.

In a statement, Wilkes said that during Panchaud's 18 years of playing and teaching in the area, he tutored hundreds of violin students. "His musical lessons always seemed to intertwine with life lessons, ones that we will not soon forget," he said.

The CSOYO Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Sandy Morris, will open the concert. Also featured on the program is student soloist John Burton. The CSOYO principal trumpet and student at Walker Valley High School will perform the second movement of Ewazen's Trumpet Concerto.

Presented as a "penny concert," the performance will grant 1-cent admission to children and students accompanying paying adults ($6) and seniors ($4).
