In unrelated cases, two sex offenders were arrested in DeKalb County, Ala., last week after failing to register with the sheriff's office.

Brandon Wayne Wilemon, 30, of Boaz, Ala., and Robin Edward Lankford, 33, of Crossville, Ala., were arrested and charged with failure to register as sex offenders.

Wilemon was one of five people charged with unlawful manufacture of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia by the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office on Dec. 22.

Police received a tip that the home where Wilemon was arrested may have children living in it.

"There was no minor there when the arrest was made, but there were signs of a minor living there," said Shannon St. John, assistant to DeKalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris.

After his initial arrest, it was discovered that Wilemon is a sex offender, and charges were added, St. John said.

A second sex offender was arrested Dec. 27 after a tip from authorities in Marshall County, Ala.

Authorities informed DeKalb County that Lankford, a registered sex offender, would be moving into the area.

"If a sex offender moves to a different county, they are supposed to let the sheriff's office know where they are moving to and register with them," Sheriff Jimmy Harris said in a release.

Most arrests for failure to register are made as a result of tips, as in Lankford's case, St. John said.

"We gave him a date to be here and he wasn't," she said. "He didn't show up; that's when we went out and got him."

Wilemon and Lankford will remain in jail until their bonds are met.
