Horton, planners discuss terms

Chattanooga developer Duane Horton met with city planners and others Friday to discuss conditions related to his proposed Chattanooga Village in the wake of this week's City Council meeting.

Horton said plans are to meet again next Thursday with Chattanooga-Hamilton County Regional Planning Agency staff to refine solutions to concerns raised earlier about plans for apartments, offices and stores on 190 acres near Highway 153 and Boy Scout Road.

"We'll get into more detail," he said. Representatives from North Chickamauga Creek Conservancy and the "Don't Chop The Hilltop" group also were in attendance. Horton's rezoning request was deferred Tuesday until Jan. 22.

TVA directors sworn into office

Former Democratic gubernatorial nominee Mike McWherter and Huntsville attorney Joe Ritch were sworn into office this week for their new posts on the Tennessee Valley Authority board.

McWherter, who owns a beer distributorship in Jackson, Tenn., and Ritch, only the second Alabaman to serve on the TVA board in the utility's 79-year history, are among four new directors of the federally owned electric utility.

Vera Lynn Evans, an accountant and board member of Memphis Gas, Light and Water, and C. Peter Mahurin, chairman of Hilliard Lyons Financial Services in Bowling Green, Ky., have also joined the TVA board and soon will be sworn into office.

The TVA board next meets Feb. 14 in Chattanooga.
