Gordon County officers kill man with rifle

Deputies in Gordon County, Ga., on Wednesday shot and killed a man who wouldn't put down his rifle, authorities said.

Allen Ott, 48, of Kingston, Ga., had threatened to kill his wife, Sheriff Mitch Ralston said in a news release.

Deputies were sent to a home on Dews Pond Road near Calhoun to stop him, Ralston said.

The officers approached Ott and ordered him to put down the weapon, but he ignored them, the sheriff said. Instead, he pointed the rifle at the deputies and was shot twice.

Ott was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is handling the investigation.
